The Markets

Stocks drifted slightly higher on Wednesday as the optimism surrounding the Santa Claus rally period remains intact.  The S&P 500 Index ticked higher by just over a tenth of one percent, charting a fresh record closing high.  The benchmark broke above the upper limit of an ascending triangle pattern on Monday, continuing the intermediate to long-term trend of higher-highs and higher-lows.  Previous resistance just above 4700 is now in a position of support.  The 20-day moving average is back on a positive slope, highlighting the positive short-term momentum and level of support underlining the broader market benchmark.  Similarly, momentum indicators are on the rebound.  Four more sessions remain in the heart of the Santa Claus rally period, a period that so far is showing success.
