The Markets

Stocks shook off mid-week concerns to close solidly higher in the last session of the trading week, keeping this erratic pattern of abrupt daily gains and losses alive.  The S&P 500 Index closed with a gain of 1.09%, continuing to show a reaction to rising trend-channel resistance overhead.  Support at rising 20 and 50-day moving averages are encroaching on price, now just 2.1% and 5.1% below present levels.  In the past week, sell signals were recorded with respect to MACD and the Relative Strength Index (RSI), suggesting a short-term hiatus in buying demand.  The stall in the price action and the gyrations intraweek confirm.  The long and intermediate term trends remain positive, but the short-term trend is under threat.
